Why Horses
For millennia, wild equids were a vital part of North American ecosystems. Today, the government’s mismanagement of America’s public lands has created a wild horse crisis, causing a 140 million dollar tax burden for the American people. Many horses are unwanted or face removal from public lands, holding pens, or private neglect. We believe these animals deserve a second chance not in captivity, but in the landscapes they evolved in.
Rewilded horses are more than symbolic,
they are functional ecosystem engineers.
The Ecological Role of Rewilded Horses
• Maintaining grassland diversity through natural disturbance
• Supporting seed dispersal and adaptive grazing patterns
• Creating varied habitats that benefit birds, small mammals, and native plant communities
This work is grounded in research and ongoing monitoring, including vegetation surveys, remote sensing, population tracking, and wildlife observation.
